Is there something else I can do to bring down my creatinine level (1.27) besides stopping my diuretic?

I am currently on cozaar and a form of hctz that removes excess fluids but does not take out the potassium. Because of the elevated creatinine levels (1.27), my GP wants me to lay off the diuretic and drink a ton of water. What concerns me is the fluid retention that could result. I ran out of my diuretic on a trip and I was in so much pain and had so much swelling. Could you recommend any other treatment to bring down my creatinine level?
